Wesfarmers Curragh Coal Mine, Blackwater QLD
Nathan Contractors were engaged at Curragh Coal mine by Walz Constructions to construct the civil component of the ROM Upgrade. The works were part of an expansion of the coal plant that included installation of a new primary / secondary sizing station, tertiary feed station, distribution station and overland conveyors linking the new infrastructure to the existing.
Nathan’s scope of works included construction of bored piers, footings, slabs and pedestals, strengthening of existing footings, SWD culverts and pavements.
Facts & figures
Contract duration: 30 weeks
Workforce: 22 form workers, reo fixers and concretors; 5 plant operators; the crews worked under a FIFO roster.
Quantities: Bored piers – 87 no. x 14m depth; concrete 1600 m3, Reo 200T., unsuitable removal and replacement: 7,800m3; RCBC culvert crossings: 5 no; road pavements 7,500 m2; strengthening of existing building foundations: multiple.
Plant and equipment utilised: site cranage included a 20T Franna, 130T Slew, 36m Concrete pump, 350T crane for placement of precast beams.
