Cudeco Copper Mine, Cloncurry QLD
Nathan Contractors was contracted to Cudeco Ltd to carry out civil works at their Rocklands Copper project, near Cloncurry in north west QLD. As a result of Nathan’s performance in meeting a tight program, without sacrificing quality, safety and environmental controls, Nathan was awarded additional civil packages over an 18-month period.
The final scope of works included earthworks, detailed excavation, concrete footings, foundations and slabs for the mine’s processing equipment; excavation and construction for over 500 pedestal footings for pipe racks and conveyor systems; E-House slabs and Tunnel Slabs, twenty independent concrete slabs (including footings) for electrical switching rooms, construction of 300+ pedestals for electrical cabling trays and a major slab for a feed conveyor from stock pile to the crusher; construction of 5 bunkers to house electrical transformers (as pictured below); and the construction of multiple slabs and isolated pedestals for pipework.
The project involved the placement of over 2,500m3of concrete, supply and placement of more than 240t of steel reinforcement, erection of 1,100m2 of wall form, preparation of 12,000m2 of subgrade and more than 2000m3 of detail excavation.

Contract duration: 80 weeks
Workforce: 55 form workers, reo fixers and concretors; 3 plant operators; the crews worked under a FIFO roster.
Quantities: excavation 2,000 m3; subgrade preparation 12,000 m3; supply and placement of 2,600m3 of concrete; supply and place 240tonnes of Reo; walls formwork 1,000m2+.
Plant and equipment utilised: site cranage included a 20T Franna and 350T crane for placement of form shutters; 36m Concrete pump; 30T excavator, 20T roller, water cart, backhoes, bobcats.
