Nathan contracted to Watkins Contracting for the construction of a tailings dam plinth and associated structures on MMG’s Dugald River Mine near Cloncurry in QLD.
The works comprised the full construction of a 245m of concrete reinforced plinth at the base of a new dam earth embankment, in mostly steep terrain with slopes of up to a 53% grade.
The works were carried out under an aggressive construction program and in accordance with er Dugald River Mine requirements. Our work crews worked under a continuous Fly in Fly out roster so that works continued 7 days a week. The client placed a high focus on work safety, construction quality, and a focus on meeting strict project milestones.

Quantities: plinth length 245m; mass concrete fill under plinth: 794m3; concrete supply, form and pour: 395m3; Reo supply and fix: 41T; sundry structures included a 45m3 of concrete crest anchors, a tether control station base slab and 3 off pontoon anchor blocks.
Equipment utilised: a 20T Franna, a 48m Concrete pump, 30T excavators, trucks and grader, rollers and water trucks.
