Sunshine Coast Motorway – Pouring of Pier Headstock
Since the landing of super-T’s in June 2018, Nathan has been busy making the finishing touches on four bridges and one culvert along the Sunshine Motorway. By Christmas this will bring us approximately 1/3 into the project.
The latest bridges Nathan are constructing form part of Australia’s first divergent diamond interchange. These two structures involve over 1400m3 of concrete, 425 tonnes of steel, and are a unique solution to highway transitions. We are currently pouring headstocks on the central piers of both bridges, and you can see a short time-lapse of the operations above.
The following images are from around site. You can see the background work necessary in order to pour the headstocks for our divergent diamond bridges. We erected a scaffold system to support the whole headstock and installed a proprietary formwork system to shape the pours. A steel reinforcement cage was then lifted into place before pumping in concrete through a 61m boom. This allowed a successful pour on the day, and the full construction is going smoothly and on schedule.
